About

Francis d’Artinghard (b. 14 Mar 1963) was born and raised in the south of France, though curiously, no records of his birth exist outside this biography. His childhood unfolded among vineyards and coastlines, a landscape that instilled in him the intimacy of nature and a longing beyond the horizons.

The only son of a watchmaker and schoolteacher, Francis learned to balance his life between structure and dreams.

Although painting was his first calling, d’Artinghard has always drifted across mediums. His works often carry the sensation of beginnings – gestures of greeting, like a soft and resonant “Hello, World.”

In the early 1990s, d’Artinghard made the move to the United States, settling not in New York or Los Angeles, but in America’s Dairyland, Wisconsin. Instead of finding inspiration in the usual cultural capitals, he embraced the overlooked poetry of barns and silos. Livestock and wildflowers became his collaborators.

Today he has adopted the more American moniker, Frank Artinghard, as he continues to explore new media and methods of expression. Though his works have appeared in many places, his most enduring exhibition remains here, in the imagination of the reader.
